At the halfway point of the 24 hour marathon that was Chachi Plays, we talked with Executive Director of the Toonseum.

Night at the Toonseum, Baby!
Sorg, Chachi, and I were passing text messages back and forth, which we’ve been doing during the entire planning process for Chachi Plays. But, one text in particular that circulated Wednesday night made me giggle like a little school girl. That text simply read:
“Night at the Toonseum”
We’ve all seen the movies (or at least the trailers for the movies) where the museum exhibits come to life after hours. And, that’s when the wheels in my brain started to churn. Maybe it was my own lack of sleep (reference: Wednesday – Chachi Plays Week post) or maybe it was the full moon. Whatever it was, I envisioned how awesome it will be to hang out at the Toonseum for 24 hours. For what it’s worth, if last year’s Chachi Plays is any gauge, it’s pretty safe to say that by the time we reach hour 24 of Sorg doing his video stuff, and Chachi doing his video game stuff, it is quite possible that those boys’ll be seeing Daffy Duck and Porky Pig walking the halls.
So, here’s to kicking things off right for our Night at the Toonseum! Happy Chachi Plays 2012! And, gentlemen, START YOUR VIDEO GAMES!
Friday – Chachi Plays Week
Friday. Finally.
Yep. We’re finishing out the week with our Friday “f”. After all of the planning, all of the fundraising, and all of the prepping, we’re finally ready to kick off the second annual Chachi Plays this evening.
After today (okay…tomorrow) there’ll be no more fussing over this year’s event. There will be a bunch of thank yous of course, and some spectacular recaps, and videos, and the like. But, for now…for today…this is what we’ve been working toward. And, it’s finally here.
So stop down this evening from 7:00 until tomorrow evening at 7:00 to check things out. And, we’re still taking donations if you’re interested. You can continue to donate through the site, or you can donate in person. We’ll continue to tweet and talk about it. We may even continue to push our goal to its limits. But, in the end of it all, we can say that Friday – no, Chachi Plays Friday – is finally here.
Thursday – Chachi Plays Week
Since Chachi beat me to the punch line on the thank you post I was planning for Thursday, I went ahead and pushed that post to Tuesday. While I’m sitting here thinking about it, the thankful, with the whole “th” would have been even better for what has turned out to be my themed posts for this week. All kidding aside, I was not originally planning on the themed posts, matching the first letter of the day of the week with the key word in my posts. But, since Chachi and Sorg are getting such a kick out of it, why not play it out?
But, I think (You’re thinking that the “th” with think is going to play a role in my Thursday post, aren’t you? Go ahead. Admit it. I know that’s what you’re thinking.) I may swap things up a little. Since we did the thankful post on Tuesday, I’m going to swap things up. You’re getting a plain ol’ “t” post for today. So how ’bout them apples?
We really can’t give enough thanks to the Toonseum (Boom! ”T” Word!) for allowing us to come in and do this. Without a home for Chachi Plays, it’d really just be Chachi sitting either in his bedroom at home, or in the Sorg living room doing this. While we enjoy having folks over, Chachi’s room isn’t very spacious to accommodate everyone, and the Sorgs live on a narrow, dead-end street with no parking. Between folks being able to find our respective homes, and the hassle of getting to and from them, it really is easier (and more presentable for an actual fundraising event) for us to take over a local business location.
The Toonseum is a great location too. It’s relatively centrally located, so folks won’t need to cross too many rivers or go through too many tunnels to get to it. And, it has the perfect man child fit for what we’re doing. It’s a museum about cartoons. Cartoons are what make up video games. It’s a perfect fit!
So definitely, when you stop down to check out Chachi Plays this weekend, take some time to check out the Toonseum too.
Wednesday – Chachi Plays Week
I know you’ve all been waiting with bated breath to see what our wonderful Wednesday post would be. So here you go:
It’s a Wacky Wednesday over here for us. With Chachi and Sorg working on the Awesome Cast and Wrestling Mayhem Show audio podcasts last night, and with all the work they’re doing heading into this weekend’s event, it’s safe to say that neither of them saw a good 8 hours of sleep last night. But, I guess that’s one of the ways they’re gearing up for things. Kinda how a marathon runner paces themselves for a marathon run, if they can get themselves into a pattern of sleeplessness now, they’ll be ready for the 24-hour stint for Chachi Plays, right? No? Well, it was worth a shot for them I guess.
Suffice it to say that in just a short 2 days, the crew will be converging on the Toonseum to set up and kick off this year’s Chachi Plays. So here’s to the halfway point in Chachi Plays Week. And, here’s to the fun that’s sure to ensue over the next couple of days. We’ll be sure to let you know how the guys are doing as we draw closer to Friday.
Tuesday – Chachi Plays Week
Looks like Chachi himself had something to say today! And, I just had to chip in my own 2¢. This week is truly one of the most amazing weeks for me. Like Chachi said, that amazing awesomeness is thanks to everyone who supports Chachi Plays.
Chachi tells me over and over that this is “our” effort, not just his. In all actuality, he’s right. Although the event bears a remarkable resemblance to his name *cough*Chachi*cough* Plays, it isn’t about Chachi. It’s about everyone coming together for a common goal: to help the kids. It’s about the Toonseum being cool with us coming in for 24 hours, setting up a couple big screen TVs and just about every video game console we can get our grubby little paws on. It’s about those people who are willing to go without their big screen TV and/or video game consoles for a couple days so we can use them for the event. It’s about the people who are willing to loan us a copy of that “one” video game we don’t have, that someone wants to play. It’s about Chachi, and Sorg, and the other folks who are going to be on hand for each and every one of those 24 hours, whether they’re playing the video games, running the tech behind the scenes, or simply standing in the crowd to cheer on their friends. And, it’s totally about everyone who’s donated a monetary contribution, whether it’s the $1.00 or the $100.00 contributor.
So, yes. I can say that we thank you all for every piece and part you’ve played for Chachi Plays. We truly couldn’t do it without you.
(So yes. Since it’s Tuesday…”T” is for thankful.)
$3,000
A little over a month ago we launched the donations button. A little over a month ago, there was 0 dollars in there. A little over a month ago(and every week/day/hour/min since) i worried about whether or not we would reach our goal. The whole time Missy, Mike and Chris all sat there and told me to chill, relax, shut it etc etc etc.
And i would tell them i was relaxed. We all knew of course that this was not true. However we went on the normal path.
It’s Tuesday, the event is 3 days away. I can tell you beyond a shadow of a doubt that i am relaxed. In 3 days, i will sit down and play some video games with some friends and family. Completely relaxed.
I in no way shape of form could’ve done it without you. You made this happen. You were generous. I was merely a vessel.
Thank you All!
p.S. LETS PLAY SOME GAMES!
Monday – Chachi Plays Week
That’s right. It’s MONDAY of Chachi Plays Week! But, this isn’t your typical Monday. No. It is a spectacular Monday. It’s a Monday filled with momentum, and mystery, and magic! (See how we used those “m” words – pretty nifty, huh?)
Let’s look at what we’ve got going on.
Momentum: We are –><– this close to meeting our goal of $3,000.00 for the event. And, we’re in the last stretch for our fundraising efforts. Again, kudos to everyone who’s helped us get to where we are. (Go ahead. Give yourselves a good ol’ pat on the back.) If you haven’t donated? That’s okay too, but we would love to see some of you folks pitch in something (even if it’s $1.00) to help get us over that $3,000.00 mark. Bottom line – it truly is for the kids. By pitching in that $1.00, you’r helping us reach our goal to help local kids.
Mystery: We’ve got a couple of spots left open on the schedule. For a donation of $50.00 or more, you can fill in that spot. The whole mystery part of it rolls in to the extent that we don’t know what games we’ll be playing in those spots. Want to see Chachi play a Barbie video game? Go ahead, donate that $50.00 and pick that as your game. Then you can tell all your friends that you saw a grown man playing Barbie on the Nintendo. Seriously, the last week with last-minute donations for game play is one of our favorite times because we get some off-the-wall game selections. And, it’s all a surprise to us.
Magic: This week is where the magic starts to happen for the event. We’re counting down the days. We have seen all the awesome support coming our way since we announced this year’s event. And, it comes down to making it all happen. Between packing up the video games and getting everything set for our launch Friday evening, it’s pretty fantastic.
So yeah, today begins the countdown to Chachi Plays 2012!
