Here we are again! The end!

Another year, another incredibly successful Chachi Plays for Kids. The event itself was a blast for us there all 24 hours and I hope you had fun if you stopped in the chat or in person as well!

In total we raised $4,228 out of our 5k goal! This is amazing for a couple reasons. 1. We’ve never raised that much money from the event in the past. 2. The money raised this year paired with the totals from the past 2 years mean that we’ve raised over $10,000 over the 3 years we have attempted this!

The new tournaments were a huge success and from my viewpoint were fun for all! Look for those to be included in the future and Congratulations to the winners in their domination of the competition! We reached new areas, more people know about us. We made the local tv news cycle which was awesome!

To our sponsors: 21st Street Coffee, Toonseum, and Commonwealth Press. Thank you for helping us pull this event off!

To you the people: this event could not be possible without your support. The twitter mentions, retweets, blog posts, facebook posts, and donations make it possible for us to continue to do this event. Not going to lie, I tear up when we hit certain points of the process. The generousity of you all lets me know that I am doing to right thing. I have seen the emails going back and forth and know already that the money is being used as we intended and the details will be released when I get them.

I know I say this every year but this event is not done by just me. I would perish under the weight of it. I could not pull this off myself in anyway. The team I have assembled helps out every step of the way and keeps me sane in the process. So to Chris, Mike, Missy and Matt: Thanks is nowhere near to what needs to be said, but words escape me. So Thank you for keeping me sane and helping make this a success!

I guess that wraps it up….. besides getting the money out to Toonseum and Art Expressions, this was the last thing I needed to do…. uh yeah… So, as we continue and grow stay tuned for hopefully huge things in the future!

Chachi Plays 2013 Wrap-Up

Chachi Plays

This year’s event has come to a close.  And, thanks to the awesome generosity of everyone who donated, we raised a grand total of $4,357.00!  Although we came in just shy of our $5,000.00 goal, the funds raised will certainly go to some good use through the Toonseum and Art Expression programs.

On behalf of those of us “behind the scenes” at Chachi Plays, we want to again thank everyone for their support.  Although we coordinate the effort, it is your support that helps us be able to help local kids through these great programs.  And, it’s your support that helps keep Chachi going strong through the entire 24 hours of the event.

In case you weren’t able to make it down to see Chachi play during the 24 hours of this year’s event, in case you were only there for a brief period of time, or if you’d like to check out the entire 24 hours, of play (without sitting through the entire 24 hours) we’ve got the condensed, 12-minute version of the entire event!  So check it out:

Thank You!

Tournaments broken down!

Lets start with the Tetris tournament. Back in its second installment here is how it works!

Bracket style tournament:

First round: 1v1 – high score wins – 5 mins This will take the starting field of 10, down to 5! The person with the highest overall score in the first round will receive a second round bye.

Second Round: Free for all. 7 mins. Top 2 scores go on. High score advances to the finals.

Final Round: 10 m 1v1 – High score takes all. Winner crowned and faces me to attempt to end my Chachi Plays undefeated streak.

On to the Street Fighter!

This is a straight forward bracket tournament. First round will be randomly drawn to see who faces who. Opponents will face each other in a best 2 out of 3 matches. Players can choose different fighters each match. Winners advance until there is only 1 person standing!

Finally. The Mario Kart Race off!

4 people(numbers allowing) will complete 1 full circuit of my choosing. The groups will be drawn ahead of time. Prior to the races, each person will pick a number out of a hat. This will determine the order in which they pick their characters. (Sorry, not everyone can be Yoshi.) Top two racers from each 4 group will move on. To compete against each other. From Groups of 3 or 2 only the top winner will move on.

So on and so forth until we crown a winner!

Clarifications

It’s been brought to my attention that there are some things on the website that don’t make sense or are hard to understand. Let us clear some of those things up!

To start, certain members of my team and I are the ones staying up for 24 hours. You are definitely not expected too! You however are more than welcome to come down to Toonseum and hang out with us during the 24 hours, it helps keep the energy going and we like to meet people. Come on down.

The slot play is a way for you to get a chance to sit down and play a game(You pick the game!) with me for an hour and hang out. This is available for a minimum donation of $50. Only 24 of these are available.

The tournament play is a way for you to test your skills in 1 of 3 games.

Kicking things off on Friday(8th) evening is Tetris. Pit your skills against 7 others in this high score challenge, walk away with a trophy, bragging rights and chance to face me. This is the only tournament I will face the winner of.

Saturday the 9th there will be 2 tournaments.

At Noon the Street Fighter tournament once again pit your skills in this winner takes all brawl for trophy and bragging rights.

Finally, race your way to the finish in the 3 pm Mario Kart tournament. Speed your way to the finish against the competition to take home the trophy and bragging rights.

Minimum donation for Tourney entry is $25 dollars.

When you make your donation to Chachi Plays, I myself am notified so I contact you if your donation meets the 25 or 50 dollar mark to see if you are interested in a slot or tourney entry. Or you can always send me a tweet @chachisays or email chachisays@gmail.com

All tourney slots and Hour slot participants will receive a Chachi Plays tshirt.

A Little Over Two Weeks To Go

Chachi Plays

That’s right.  We have a little over 2 weeks to go before this year’s Chachi Plays benefiting Art Expressions and The Toonseum.  As far as fundraising, we are currently at $1,250.00 of our $5,000.00 goal.  This means we have to hit the proverbial pavement hard over the next 2 weeks to help us raise the remaining $3,750.00 to reach our goal.

We knew that raising the stakes this year would be a risk.  But, we also knew that Pittsburghers and our internet community are huge supporters of what we’re doing.  So, we took the gamble.  Many of you have already donated.  (Thanks again for your support, by the way.) But, we also know that some of you have not donated yet.  Again, we’re not looking for everyone to donate $100.00 (although, if you’re so inclined – we will gladly accept the donation).  We get the economic crunch that just about everyone is feeling.  But, if we have 100 people donate $1.00, that also gets us $100.00 closer to our goal, and that gets an additional $100.00 to Art Expressions and The Toonseum to support their youth programs.

Our mini goal for the rest of this week is to make it to our halfway point of $2,500.00.  (We’re already halfway there at $1,250.00.)  If you can help us make that goal by midnight on Saturday, January 26,2013, we’ll see about hooking you all up with some treats for the effort.  And, when we reach our total goal for this year, we’ll be sure to have something awesome for recognition at the live event.

So what are you waiting for?  Go.  Hit that “DONATE” button at the top of the page.

Did You Know?

Art Expression, Inc.

Did you know that the arts are an important part of childhood development?  In a USA Today report it was noted that, “Schoolchildren exposed to drama, music and dance may do a better job at mastering reading, writing and math than those who focus solely on academics, says a report by the Arts Education Partnership.”   But, USA Today’s not the only source noting how important the arts are.  Live Strong also published findings that in addition to the educational and development benefits of the arts, “Children engaged in arts activities an average of nine hours a week are also less likely to engage in delinquent or truant behavior.”

Pittsburgh, much like other cities, deals with the issue of how to provide a good environment and opportunities for at-risk youth.  Art Expression and The Toonseum are beneficial to Pittsburgh area youth for that reason.  Through providing art programs, these organizations give kids an opportunity to become better people.  Instead of kids spending their time with gangs and violence, they can spend it with other kids and mentors developing good life habits.  Both Art Expression and The Toonseum show children how to express themselves in social settings, and to develop important social skills.

This is one of the reasons that these programs are so important to Chachi Plays.  We certainly thank everyone who has donated to date for their support, and we encourage everyone else to help us with this great cause.  Every little bit helps.  Whether it’s $1.00 or $100.00, your donations go to supporting the future – our future.  As a society, we can raise a batch of so-called hooligans, or we can give kids the opportunity to break that mold and become something more.  Through Chachi Plays, we’re hoping to give as many kids as we can the opportunity to rise above their situations through the programs we support – to instill in them the desire and capacity to be all they can be.
