Game 22: The Movies

I have two more mmo’s to play but that requires a little bit more time before i can write those posts. so until then here is a game from the next section. PC games. For a while pc games carried the industry and up until the ps2 were a serious competitor in the game market. With the release of of the xbox 360, wii and ps3 the gaming on pc’s has taken a slight hit but it is still hanging in there.

Before we get started with this post run to the lobby, bring me back some popcorn a sparkling drink and some gummy bears, please.

Lets all Go to the Lobby!

Game 22: The Movies.

This is a simulation game in which you design, create and run your own movie studio. From start to finish. you have the option to to start out anytime in the movie era from inception to a later decade. Welcome to Hollywood! This is your chance to shine!!!!

The game starts out with an empty lot, which you then have to fill in a neat and organized manner, the organization goes towards your rank. Then you fill it with classy decorations: bushes, plants, ornaments. Once again this goes towards your rank. You put in everything a movie studio needs. Stages, casting offices, Production offices, writing offices and of course places to go to the bathroom.

Once this is taken care of, you can start hiring actors and directors! These people come with a prebuilt set of skills that they can be used to fill slots in movies. You can also use the stages to help build up their skills in all areas which makes them a well rounded cast member.

You also control production, pre and post. All with the goal of being ranked number one in the industry! as time goes on more studios will open, some will be terrible, others not so much. But they will all compete with you.

This game while it didnt take off and stick as well as other games of the type is truly underestimated. If you are an indepth gamer this is a pretty good game for you. You can create the movies from start to finish. Write the script and do all the pre and post editing. Music effects. A lab opens later for you to build so you can stay on top of all the latest improvments.

However this since the game did not take off as well as others, there is only one expansion released for in 2006 which added stunts and more effects. There is a whole online community which allows you to upload your film for others to view.

*UPDATE*: Our friend over at Games are for idiots James Foreman sent us one of the movies he made with this game! Check it out, its called “Attack of the Metropolitans”

Thanks to James for providing a perfect example!

Chachi says: Like other games of this type and genre it is capable of sucking a few hours out of your life quickly. You sit down at 5 to play, you’ll probably be still sitting there at 8. Fair warning. Defintely something you should check out at least once. and now you can get it for $10 new on amazon or pay 2 for a used one.
