Game 23: Ever Quest 2

Well, Lets see if i can do this calmer than i did the last one….

Here’s  the background of the game…

EverQuest II is set on the fictional world of Norrath five hundred years after the The Planes of Power storyline of the original EverQuest game. The gods withdrew from the world in retaliation for mortal incursions into their planes. On Norrath itself, Dark Elves and the Orcs destroyed much of Faydwer; while the Ogres, Goblins, Orcs, and Giants ravaged Antonica. Transport and communication to the moon Luclin were cut off.

So there you have it. Basic sequel set up.

Heres a pic:

S0 let me start off by saying that had i played this game during its original inception at release my opinion would not have been tainted. The fact that i played this game after EQ1 doesnt help. Im still steaming at the crap i had to get through in that game adventure.

However, once again i blew through the first 10 levels or so in a minimum amount of time, about 2 hours or so. i do have to give SOE credit with this game.

Here’s what they did to fix my complaints about the original.

The controls were set to the mmo gaming standard. WSAD movement, mouse clicking interaction. Kudos. you are finally on track.  Naming the character and signing in were not an issue this time at all. Random character naming was one shot done and done.  The server list was lacking in ummm, well multiple servers, which worried me when it warned me that the server was experiencing a large amount of traffic, But those fears were put to bed when i noticed no lag what so ever. the game ran smooth and clean.

And good news for you and me. THIS GAME IS FREE TO PLAY!

That’s right. A few years ago after releasing the final expansion pack for the game sony did something smart. They gave it away. You can play almost all of eq2 up to but not including the last expansion.  There is two ways to do this. You can install the 13 gig game to your hard drive and play it from there, which if you dont like it all youve wasted is time and a clean hard drive(you can fix that with an uninstall and a defrag though.). You also have the choice to play this via flash in a web browser. With the size of the game however i wouldnt reccommend this.

Now heres the catch. if you play the game for free, they take away have the options unless you buy them in the online store. Your starting character options, class, race, homeland all sliced in half. You can also buy upgrades for the armor and weapons if you dont want to work for it.

Chachi Says: overall, the game is not that bad. there are some things that sony needs to relearn. It is without a doubt better than the first. And with a price tag of $0 how can you not try it! you can go here.
