Game 34: MDK

Well took a few days off. As i said in the beginning there will be some times in the journey where i wont be able to get a post up every day. There is a new page here! its called Secret Levels. Click it to find out!

However i didnt forget about you. annnnd with out further hesitation………. heres today’s game!

Game 34: MDK

So MDK is a weird game. Not a bad game, just weird. This game was highly under rated in its time.

Heres the Story:

The game tells the story of its protagonist, Kurt Hectic, and his attempts to rescue Earth from an alien invasion of gigantic strip mining city-vehicles named ‘Mine crawlers’, that are not only removing all of earth’s natural resources but are also flattening any people and cities that get in their way. The game combined action with a sense of humor. It featured a “sniper mode” that allowed the player to zoom in on enemy targets.

Now the game has only 6 levels, which seems simple, but levels in this game can take an hour or more to complete. Ranging from 3rd person shooter to platform jumper to puzzle solving. This truly has something for everyone.

Now the kicker of this game is not the story, the game play, the characters. Nay. that is not what made this game unique.

What made this game unique is 1. the use of a software based engine. Which means instead of requiring heavy machinary in the computer to play. It ran off of tricks in the programming in order to maintain the high framerate in the bigger maps.

2. The other fun part about this game is the name. MDK. initials right? which means they stand for something right? Not Necessarily, Code named My Dear Knight. However no one can get a straight answer as to what the initials actually stand for. The company Shiny has stated that it stands for My Dear Knight. The Creator David Perry has never used the same name twice when asked. Original he stated it meant Murder Death Kill. However later he said it stood for the games main characters Max, Dr. Hawkins and Kurt. Weirdos.

Chachi Says: its a weird game, the replay value on this is decent. im not talking every couple months, maybe 6 to 12 months but definitely fun to go back and take a look at again.
