Game 39: Breakout

Atari

Remember that time that i said Atari took the pong experiece of not patenting their creations and so they continued creating new and better things(except e.t.) to throw it in there faces?

Booom, here is one of them.  Granted nowadays this would just seem lazy and we would mock the hell out of them, however in the 1970s this was a huge step.

This is Breakout. Lose a paddle, put up a wall of bricks and bam!!! new game! Using the pong engine, they created a whole new game. originally while in the arcade this was a black and white game that the bricks were tinted differently by strips of thin plastic.

The difficulty increased once you broke the top layer of bricks by the paddle shrinking.  Eventually a 2 player mode was added but woah lets not get ahead of ourselves!
