Game 49: Tempest

Tempest
1980
Atari

So all those first person shooters that you gamers love so much(i prefer rpg), yeah well this is the one that started it all.

The creator of Missle commnd was mulling around the office one day, and decided to look through the book of ideas they kicked around atari and saw this.

It was pitched as a first person shooter version of space invaders. The story is simple, you pilot the Claw, your mission guard this hole in space. shoot anything that comes out of it.

Once again atari broke out the vector graphics and they had themselves a game, but it wouldnt be atari if they didnt making innovative in some way. The cabinet for this game, had a dial. this was the directional
device and they used the traditional fire button.

Chachi says: precision and speed are the keys to this game. skill comes later. test your reflexes and protect the galaxy.
