BOLD Sports: Episode 68

Matt and Steve are bringing you this week’s news and updates in Pittsburgh sports. From NCAA hoops coverage to major league content for NFL, NHL, and MLB, if it’s happening in (or in some cases affecting) Pittsburgh, this is where you’ll find out about it. If you’re a fan of soccer or golf, Matt and Steve have some highlights there as well.

This week’s show notes:
Super Bowl Podcast was a success. We thank Mike, Ryan and Adam from Fury Brewing for joining us at Sorgatron Media this past Sunday and bringing some amazing brews. We learned a lot of what the team at Fury has going on and where we can find them and the beer this upcoming year.
Super Bowl
13-3 Pats win was not what anyone was expecting at all.
The total defensive game was great, but kinda boring in today’s NFL.
Tom Brady 21/35 262yards, 1 int 0 TD.
MVP Edelman 10 receives, 141 yards.
Gronk, 6 for 87. Goff 19/38; 229 yards, 1 int. Gurley 10/35. C.J. Anderson 7/22. B.Cooks 8/120.
Both teams missed a field goal.
The players on NE get $118,000 from the NFL and the Rams, $59,000.
Don’t forget about all the monies that they received during their playoff run: $54,000 for conference championship
wins.
Anthem Controversy
Gladys Knight said brave twice, putting it over the 1:45-1:50 (1:51) depending on your sports book.
20/1 on Edelman for MVP. +325 blue Gatorade. +110 for the under. 5/1 for Sony Michel on first TD. 50/1 on one TD. 20/1 on rams 0 TD. 1/1 tails coin toss.
Riverhounds
Friday, February 8th at 7pm the Hounds will host Cleveland St and Sunday, February 10th Gannon University at 1pm.
Both games at Highmark Stadium are FREE to attend to the public for the pre-season matches.
Penguins
The Pens are a tale of two teams right now. After the buy week and the All-Star break the Pens are 2-3.
They put up stellar games over the Lightning and Senators but had bad losses over the Devils, Leafs, and Canes.
The Pens head to Florida to take on the Panthers and Lighting.
They head back to Philly before they come home again with the Oilers in town on the 13th.
NHL
Alex Ovechkin become the highest scoring Russian-born player after his goal, topping Sergei Fedorov on the list.
Austin Matthews’ $11.65 million contract extension with the Leafs locks him up 5 more years.
Pitt Basketball
Dropping another ACC game to Wake Forest. With the final seconds ticking down, Wake passed underneath for an easy layup.
The Pitt D was nowhere to be found.
That tied the game up for overtime which the Demon Deacons took full advantage of with some key 3-pointers.
78-76 final.
The schedule doesn’t get easier for the Panthers. NC State comes to town, then they head to BC next week.
Duquesne
The Dukes took a bad loss to the Dayton Flyers to fall to 5th in the A-10.
The Bonnies were in town, and they travel to Fordham Saturday .
NCAA Football
Signing day,
31 yrs ago was the Jordan/Wilkins Dunk Competition.
